Here at the LGI the Children's Heart Surgery Fund Charity supports valuable equipment, resources and research for the treatment of children with heart defects, whilst providing a support service for both the children and their families along the way.

Our aim is to ensure that these children have the best possible chance of survival. Our hope is to

We raise money to help the children’s heart unit at the Leeds General Infirmary provide superb care for its young patients and their families by:

• Funding the most-up-to-date equipment;
• Providing accommodation and other support for children and their families;
• Funding staff positions and training;
• Contributing to the refurbishment of the unit’s facilities;
• Supporting research projects to enhance expertise in the field

Around 330 children from our region (Yorkshire, Humberside and the North Midlands) need open heart surgery. We aim to ensure these children have the best possible chance of survival and to help their families in whatever way needed during their stay in hospital.

But our work doesn’t stop there. More than 40% of the children who have an operation will need long-term care, and each year 10,000 children pass through the unit. We support them every step of the way – from womb to adulthood.

We are based in the old nurse’s home at the LGI and work closely with the heart unit. You can find out more about our team here. Our work is overseen by a board of Trustees – made up of clinical staff, parents and business leaders.
