About Great north Run

The Great North Run is the world’s biggest half marathon, famous for its inclusive atmosphere, unbeatable on-route entertainment and warm Geordie welcome! From the rush of the Red Arrows flying overhead to the oggy-oggy-oggy chants, Great North Run magic can be hard to understand – until you’ve experienced it for yourself on the Newcastle to South Shields route.

Run for Children’s Heart Surgery Fund and support children and adults born with congenital heart disease across Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.


Starting in Newcastle, this iconic event takes runners over the through Gateshead and to the coastal town of South Shields.

How to take part

There are two ways that you can take part in this event. You can either book a place in the race with CHSF, or grab your own place and let us know you’re running for us!
