After having open heart surgery at just 18 days old, heart hero Sally turns 18 today! She wanted to tell you about her heart journey so far to give hope and inspire younger heart warriors.

Hi I’m Sally and today I turned 18!! I was born with a large VSD and Transposition of the Great Arteries.

At 18 days old I had open heart surgery and had a VSD repair and arterial switch. I still have a slight mitral valve regurgitation and mild dilation of the aorta.

I have annual checkups but at the moment no further surgery is needed.

One of my favourite hobbies is photography. I’ve just finished my college course and I’m aiming to go to university to study it even more in September.

I’m also a active member of the LCH youth forum.

I’m very thankful to be still here after my hard start to life but that’s all down to the amazing staff of the #NHS. And for that I would like to say thank you!!

Keep up the amazing work you are doing for our country at this incredibly difficult time.

I will keep clapping on Thursday evenings until all of this is over…thank you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💙💙💙👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
